Letter to Editor on Female Foeticide

I am writing to draw attention to the grave (গম্ভীর) issue of female foeticide (মেয়েশিশুর গর্ভপাত), which remains a pressing (দ্রুত সমাধান প্রয়োজন) problem in our country. Despite numerous laws and campaigns aimed at curbing (রোধ করা) this practice, it continues to persist (অব্যাহত থাকা), resulting in a skewed (বিকৃত) sex ratio and societal imbalance.
Many families still prefer having male children, which leads to the illegal sex-selective (লিঙ্গ নির্বাচন) abortion (গর্ভপাত) of female fetuses. This abhorrent (অসভ্য) practice not only violates the rights of unborn girls but also perpetuates (চিরস্থায়ী করে) a cycle of discrimination (বৈষম্য) and violence against women.
It is crucial for the government and civil society to intensify (বৃদ্ধি করা) their efforts to educate people about the value of female lives and to enforce (প্রয়োগ করা) existing laws more strictly. Awareness programs should be conducted in rural areas, where this practice is most prevalent (প্রচলিত), to change societal attitudes (সামাজিক মনোভাব) and norms.
Only through collective action can we hope to eradicate (নির্মূল করা) this issue and create a more equitable society for future generations.

সরকার এবং সামাজিক সংগঠনের জন্য অত্যন্ত জরুরি যে তারা মহিলাদের জীবনের মূল্য সম্পর্কে মানুষের মধ্যে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি করা (intensify) এবং বিদ্যমান আইনকে আরও প্রয়োগ করা (enforce) কঠোরভাবে প্রয়োগ করতে প্রচেষ্টা বৃদ্ধি করে। গ্রামের এলাকায় সচেতনতা কর্মসূচি পরিচালনা করা উচিত, যেখানে এই অভ্যাস সবচেয়ে বেশি প্রচলিত (prevalent), যাতে সামাজিক মনোভাব (societal attitudes) এবং নীতি পরিবর্তন করা যায়।
